Sustainable Development

at STELLENBOSCH UNIVERSITY

About us

The Sustainable Development Impact Hub (SDG/2063 Impact Hub), founded in late 2021, is located within the Centre for Collaboration in Africa (CCA) at Stellenbosch University International (SUI). The Hub aims to ensure that the Sustainability Goals of both the UN 2030 Agenda and the AU Agenda 2063 are reached through international collaborations. The SDG/2063 Impact Hub will address the two Agendas collectively as there is a high level of alignment between the two, and it will further help to distinguish it from other Sustainability Hubs in Africa and beyond.

At the same time, the SDG/2063 Hub aims to ensure that the wider SU community is made aware of the overarching Sustainability Goals of both the UN and AU, their importance, and the role that SU can play in Africa and beyond. Furthermore, the SDG/2063 Hub should ensure that the response to the call for sustainability is supported by advocating for a wider uptake on measuring impact, encouraging collaboration, and communicating the projects and contributions the university is making.

Key objectives of the SDG/2063 Hub are to

  • Raise awareness at SU and partners on existing SDG/2063 related activities, including sustainability literacy.
  • Create partnerships at SU and with our partner institutions through international collaborations for SDG/2063 research, education, and promotion.
  • Coordinate the collection of data to measure impact and consolidate resources.
  • Communicate SU’s contributions to the overarching Sustainability Agendas.
