Join us for the Future17 SDG Challenge

This month we started our recruitment drive for students to take part in our first semester Sustainability Literacy programme, the Future17 SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Challenge. Participants will be working in virtual groups with students and mentors from 10 universities across the globe. You will have the opportunity to collaborate to find solutions for global sustainability challenges centered around themes such as climate action, reduced inequalities and gender equality, poverty reduction, innovation and industry, and more…

Climate Change Quiz and our Sustainability World Café

 

This month we have some interesting events where students and staff at SU can become involved in a number of workshops and events to help us embed sustainability at our institution. We would like to welcome all students and staff to an IPCC Workshop on the 3rd of October, and a Sustainability World Café on the 9th. Senior students and researchers are encouraged to submit an abstract to take part in the AC21 Legacy Symposium to be held at SU in early November…

Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5, Gender Equality, is in focus this Women’s Month in South Africa. The Goal hopes to “Ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic, and public life” by 2030. This aligns with the AU’s Agenda 2063 Goal 17Full gender equality in all spheres of life. Finalist of the SDG Initiative of the Year Award

The SDG/2063 Impact Hub has been selected as a finalist in the ACEEU, Triple E Awards for SDG Initiative of the Year. These awards are a global recognition of efforts towards the quest for entrepreneurship and engagement in higher education. Our Programme Manager will be travelling to Barcelona to take part in the Awards and the partnered conference on Engaged and Entrepreneurial Universities for Sustainable Development – linking education, research and innovation to achieve the SDGs.
